A while ago I popped into a beautiful floral shop in Galway called Yes Flowers to chat with two talented florists: Raytus and Mark.
Their style is unique, they always listen to their client’s needs and they are super friendly, so if you are ever around just go in and say hi!
Here is what they say about their approach:
‘Tradition: A long-established custom or belief that has been passed on from one generation to another’...........and we love tradition, so if its not broken, why fix it!
Now that same sex marriage has been so overwhelmingly embraced by the wonderful people of our wonderful country Ireland, we feel it is time to ‘re invent’ the wheel a bit with how we should do it! We are different to the traditional format of a man and woman’s wedding ceremony and rightly so.
Tradition has shaped the way weddings are celebrated, the Bride is escorted up the aisle by her father and ‘given away’ to the next man in her life, the Groom.....
Now there are two Brides or two Grooms, sexual equals, so being ‘given away’ needs to be replaced with the uniting of two people, as equals, into an equal relationship in an equal society. The format of how we see a wedding needs to be tweaked to fit the new needs of the occasion. We feel that the traditional white flower image and everything matching should be replaced for this new concept with a more unique and celebratory sense, reflecting the personalities and energies of the wedding couple, their ceremony and the venue.
When we are approached by couples, we chat together to get a feel for who they are, what they are passionate about and what identifies them to the world, and try to interoperate this in flowers, helping to make their day unique and memorable in many ways which people are not traditionally used to. We feel that everything needs to shift a degree to fit the new concept of how your wedding day should flow; from your outfits, the precession, the ceremony and of course the decoration.
We are very excited to welcome couples planning their special day to call in for a chat and put a chic and individual package together tailored to each couples wishes and needs.
Serving lovers in Galway since 2001.
